Count recurring gaps
Open positions, overtime, retraining, and incomplete routes can become normal enough to disappear from a budget discussion. Recording them over time shows whether the current model is actually stable.
Separate symptoms from causes
A labor shortage may be one problem, but poor scheduling, unsuitable equipment, or unclear standards may be another. Automation should address a defined constraint rather than become a general response to frustration.
Compare change with delay
A proposal should show both the cost of acting and the likely cost of maintaining the present approach. That comparison gives a business owner a clearer basis for timing the decision.
